The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Emerson College prepares students with the foundation needed for careers in a variety of dynamic health-related fields, including speech-language pathology, advocacy, public health, and health education. Housed in Emerson’s School of Communication, the department offers two undergraduate degree programs and a minor. Transfer students are welcome in both majors.

Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders
The on-campus Bachelor of Science (BS) in Communication Disorders is designed to provide a solid foundation in the area of communication disorders with an emphasis on cultural and linguistic diversity. Students acquire foundational knowledge of language and speech development and disorders, the anatomy and physiology of communication, and the science of speech sounds. This knowledge equips students for graduate studies in the areas of speech-language pathology, audiology, and other health-related professions. Students also take ASL and can minor in Hearing and Deafness, volunteer or observe in our onsite Robbins Speech-Language and Hearing Center, contribute to faculty and graduate student research, and participate in National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) , Bilingual Language and Literacy Investigative and Networking Group (BLLING), and LGBTQ+ Communication Sciences & Disorders Student Association (LGBTQ+CSDSA) .
Bachelor of Arts in Health and Social Change
The on-campus Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Health and Social Change is designed for change-makers who want to pursue a career at the nexus of public health and social justice. Students learn about health systems and related structural challenges, engage with communities, investigate local and global health inequities, and acquire and create tools to implement change. The Health and Social Change major combines well with a minor in Social Impact Design, Environmental Studies, Nonprofit Communication, or Peace and Social Justice.
